Although They Were Conjoined Twins
Although they were conjoined twins, Mimi did NOT share Midge's love of Pasta Carbonara.
Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorite pieces I've ever done. Makes me crack up every time I look at it. Yes, my sense of humor is twisted, I know! ha!

Did She Only Want A Summer Romance?
Did she only want a summer romance or was she starting to see the lifeguard differently? In any event, Gretchen's conflicting emotions were causing her unwanted angst.
(Here's a more recent drawing in my 100 day project - 100drawingsonpaper).

Equestrian Love
I originally gave this painting the generic name of, "The Lady and Her Horse," but I now can't take it (ugh!)! I'm changing it to "Equestrian Love." Ah, I feel so much better now.

Unexpected Urban Love
Unexpected Urban Love
I was going to call this Freaky Urban Love,
but they were looking at each other so gently,
I felt there was nothing freaky about it.

Chocolate Love
Still trying to give my friend some artwork of happiness and light after her complaint that my last painting scared her. Ha! Hope she likes it, because who knows what my feelings and impressions of tomorrow might be and what kind of painting they will bring forth.

Flowery Language
I'm finding myself involved in too many things. This situation happens to me frequently. I'm interested in this, I'm interested in that, and pretty soon I am running out of time no matter how much I chase it. I've overextended myself yet again--will I never learn this lesson?! I find myself in a tizzy as project deadlines scamper on down the road, and well, you know the score, I'm sure.
And even though I'm in this state, I still feel a pull, a tugging at my sleeve--or rather fingertips--that I MUST make something. Draw something, paint something, before I forget how. Well, I don't think I'll forget, but let me just say, I know exactly how Alan Bates' character (the painter Saul) in the film "An Unmarried Woman" felt when he said, if he stopped painting for one day, he may never paint again.
Anyway, here's the fellow that came out of me today--a tortured Mr. Reginald.

Nearly driven insane by unrequited love,
Reginald STILL spoke in flowery language.
(acrylic, India ink, gouache, pastel)
I really liked the look of this stripped-down version below.
I thought it had a "letterpress-feel" which I loved.
Alas, I couldn't stop myself from bringing forth those flowers.

A Drama in 12 Words - Brooklyn Art Library
I've been participating in projects with the Brooklyn Art Library since 2010 when I did my first sketchbook for them called, "Coffee and Cigarettes." I followed up in 2011 with "Sandwich" and 2012 with "The Last Word Spoken." I've also participated in a canvas painting exchange which I blogged about during my 365 day project (Day 235 Be Proud of What You've Got), and also several other free projects that they've offered.
They're a great organization trying to foster creativity not just among American artists, but artists worldwide.
Last week they offered a change to write a drama in 12 words, then asked you to tweet it or instagram it. Ever the romantic, here's mine:

Train jolts, eyes catch.
Lost love, now found?

Day 353. Those Slavic Cheekbones Gave A Backwards Glance (SOLD)
And in one brief moment and a backwards glance, those beautiful, Slavic cheekbones walked out of his life. Desmond had never met a woman like Galina before--her temper, emotions, moods as deeply vermillion as her stylish coat and matching hat. He just couldn't live up to the conflicted passion she constantly required. She was Anna Karenina, and he, a mere peasant. He knew it was a doomed love affair, but he couldn't stop himself from being pulled into her exotic intoxication.
She had cared for him, her eyes said, just a little bit. Her expression had a touch of wistfulness, and somewhere through the air he heard Vysotsky's anguished singing of "Horses." The singer's pained shouts were a perfect pairing to Desmond's inability to stop the unfolding of the inevitable. In all reality, there was a beauty in the doomed affair. He would savor his pain and write an award-winning poem of it later. He silently began it with that last look:

Goodbye, razor-sharp cheekbones;
your cut left me breathlessly bleeding!
From the movie "White Nights" - Mikhail Baryshnikov dances to Vysotsky's, "Horses." (That's the fabulous Helen Mirren there as well, sobbing at Misha's dancing brilliance.)
P.S. I was a Russian major back when this film first came out and I went and saw it EIGHT times. I was so in love with the Russian language and Baryshnikov!

Day 286. Go Ahead, Stick Your Neck Out (SOLD)
If you've ever feared putting your work out into the world, whether it's your writing, your art, your graffiti or your new skateboard--whatever--here is some inspirational advice, courteous of Elizabeth Gilbert ("The Signature of All Things," "Eat, Pray, Love," etc.).
Just in case you didn't see it, you need to.
Now, go ahead. Stick your neck out, and send your creations packing into the cosmos. They're strong. They'll survive all the critiques, and eventually you will, too.

Day 276. Blueberry Cafe
Each morning he said, "I love blueberries."
She said, "Nobody loves blueberries that much."
He said, "You add sparkle to my day."
She said, "You're just seeing the glitter in the formica."
He said, "This place has the most eclectic style."
She said, "This place has a schizophrenic style, and if it weren't for the same blueberry ingredient in all the dishes, nothing here would be the same."
But she was wrong, because he was the same and she was the same.
He, ever yearning for this blueberry-tinged damsel; she, ever yearning for true-blue love from a rich romeo never stopping by this sticky joint.

Day 243. She Knew Her Face Said Crankerella
The man belched at the bar, and she could feel her forehead furrow. She knew that her face said, "Crankerella," but truly, are there no manners left?
Her distaste grew, but now she turned it upon herself. There was something, about this neanderthal...something sexy... Ugh! She could feel herself falling for the wrong man again.

Day 224. Unfettered by Convention (No Longer Available)
Unfettered by convention, Clementine fell to her knees, grabbed her boyfriend, and took matters into her own hands. Knowing that he was the man for her, she proposed that they remain crazy in love together forever. No furtive glances, approving or otherwise, held any sway on her impulsive actions.

Day 205. Love
Love
So in love, completely entwined.
Rich with the deliciousness of falling, falling, falling into rapture,
one cannot separate the two.
Ah, beautiful enchantment.
