Day 13 - Kim Goes Shopping

I need to work a day ahead here, so following is something in advance for Sunday.  I'm not even sure how I arrived at this, but since Kim Kardashian West is everywhere, how could I not have her pop up in my artwork?  I happen to be, just like Jennifer Lawrence, a fan of the Kardashians.  To me it seems they work quite hard and they are beautiful chiquitas, you must admit!

I know they live a glamorous life, but can you imagine the constant vigilance it would take to always monitor what you look like and have to be followed by paparazzi?  Better they have the life than I.  I like the freedom to move anonymously and freely.

I just read a quote by David Bowie today from an interview he had with Tracy Emin.  It was originally from The Guardian, although I ran across an excerpt of it in Artnet News.

TE: Did you always want fame? Is it something you'd wish on your children?
DB: I certainly fancied my own spoonful of it when I was young. I was more than downcast to find that fame brought nothing more than good seats in a restaurant. There is nothing there to covet. The nature of fame seems to have shifted recently. I understand that it doesn't even get you a Madonna ticket these days. So I won't be recommending it to my offspring. Having influence is more rewarding for feeding ego. Satisfaction and excitement with one's work is the biggest buzz, though.

Back to Kim Kardashian West--here she is in full shopping mode according to my interpretation.

Selfie - SOLD

Gave this fellow a burst of tangerine!  He started out quite a bit differently.  I wasn't sure where I was headed with the beginning, but I ended up with that wide-eyed, pursed-lip look you see in a lot of selfies. Maybe it emanated from my glancing through Rizzoli's new Kim Kardashian Selfish book over the weekend, although let's face it.  This dude falls far short in the glamour-puss department in comparison.  He better pick up that book!

Day 329. Letting the Music Dictate

I started a larger painting on Sunday night, got about 2/3 of the way through, and stopped. I figured I'd have it finished by tonight, but the birth remains incomplete.  I haven't touched it, and I don't want it tainted by shortness of time.  As a result, I found myself sitting down tonight with no idea of what to draw.  I wasted time surfing the net, finding myself somehow watching Kanye West on a motorcycle with a topless Kim Kardashian in front of him.  I listened to the lyrics, and just thought, I must be getting old.

Cue Paul McCartney and Wings, "Band on the Run."  This I understand and love.  As soon as the needle hits the vinyl, and I hear those first notes coming out of the guitar, my spirits lift.  (And always, on the rare occasions I simply have the radio on in the car and you hear those notes, well, I'm floating above the road like Herbie the Love Bug.  Happiness guaranteed!  The day my spirit is unable to be lifted by that opening melody is the day I might as well hang it up.

Okay, so this painting has no meaning behind it, only a great album.  Like yesterday, I let the music dictate the direction of hand to paint to surface.  Here's who emerged.

The album in its entirety--you MUST listen to the entire thing loudly--so great.  Grab a piece of paper and a paintbrush while you're at it.

Day 217. They're Real and They're Spectacular (SOLD)

Vanessa knew that her curvaceous body had power over men.  Maybe some would see that admission as a bad thing, but then she thought of those beauties of the big and small screen--Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Rita Hayworth, Monica Bellucci*, Christina Hendricks, Sophia Vergara and yes, even Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian.  On some level (and perhaps on many), they enjoyed and luxuriated in their overdeveloped God-given curves.  If they could, why couldn't she?  She would celebrate herself and be proud of her body.

With that thought, Vanessa dressed carefully for the evening, wearing just the right gown.  And when the time was right, she positioned herself underneath a sparkling, pink chandelier, letting its soft light shimmer onto her skin.  She had picked her prey for the evening, and when he leaned in and boldly asked, "Are they real?"  She laughed seductively, briefly recalling Teri Hatcher in a Seinfeld episode, and said, "They're real, and they're spectacular."

*See Monica Bellucci in the French film "How Much Do You Love Me" ("Combien Tu M'Aime?) for the best explanation of what I'm trying to convey--9:15 to 12:00.   I'd put in a YouTube link, but it's a little too spicy. (-;

Bellucci: "It's only natural. All men love me.  That's what I was made for, to be loved.  All I have to do is move a little."
