Party Dress

I just can't seem to pick up shimmer and shine with my camera or phone.  I spent a very long time on this--it has beads and glitter and tissue paper and acrylic, and two kinds on enamel, and...well, you get the point.  I went out to eat with a very good friend of mine, the last bit of the post-Thanksgiving weekend, and everything is now twinkling with Christmas decorations.  The holiday is working its way into my art.

There's my friend Cindy, or Cinderella as I call her, in the background.

Nan's Holiday Vacation

On her holiday vacation, Nan's lobster dinner with a mysterious stranger later turned into a fling.  Alas, she ended up with a different crustacean as a souvenir.

Headshot 1 and 2 - Starbucks - No Longer Available

I tried a Gingerbread Tea Latte today and Starbuckaroos.  I also did a little pen sketch with whiteout added on the cup.  Here's that one, although you can't catch the ears, bubbles, etc. in this pic.

Starbucks Holiday Venti Cup

I decided to open the cup up and and oil paint and acrylic to this fellow.  Here he is in the end.  P.S., Can you tell I will draw on anything?

Holiday Cravings

Jean-Marc had done a Master Cleanse before his GQ assignment, swilling only hot water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup in order to be at his most svelte.  The stylists had raved at his six-pack, and he momentarily considered continuing on this stringent, liquid diet until the new year.  However, the rumbling underneath those abs and the feeling of faintness as the cameras continued to click, left him with only one thought:  "As soon as I am done with this modeling shoot, I'm going to gorge myself on fudge."

Hans Put on His Holiday Toupee

Hans had tried carefully to conceal the fact that he wore a toupee.  He ordered them online, never going to a store in-person.  He tried 8 different styles until he found one that was most "lifelike."  The fact that it came from the Raquel Welch "Hair U Wear" line just went to show how much he was willing to step outside of the box, finding just the right short style even though it was a women's wig.  Things were going smoothly; in fact, he convinced himself that he had yet to catch anyone's sidelong glances and eyes fluttering up to his topper. Success!

He headed assuredly to a family Christmas party where everyone remarked on his youthful appearance.  His yuletide glee rapidly deflated when, ladling spiked eggnog to hand to his Aunt Hattie, he realized she was wearing the same hairstyle.  His face fell while her's lit up.  What could he do? Quickly add a double shot of liquor into her crystal cup and hope her accusations were taken as drunken senility?  Oh, the truth had to come out.

Perhaps it was the holiday spirit that caused Hattie to grab his hand and take him into the next room.  She opened up her suitcase of a purse and pulled out a sparkly wig.

"Hans," she said with eyes gleaming, "I was going to wear this wig at the end of the night for a laugh.  You do it instead, because after all, when you come out with the truth, you might as well do it in grand style!"  Truer words were never spoken!

Hans put on his holiday toupee, took a deep breath, and bravely rejoined the party.  He also had several crystal cups of double-shot eggnog, but that's beside the point. (-;

Day 358. She Felt Herself Aging at These Holiday Parties

Oh, how she didn't want to be there!  Claudette felt herself aging at these holiday parties. Idle chatter drained her circulation faster than her support hose.  She was a natural introvert and the only way she could tolerate these tiresome festivities was to find a chair in the corner and to drink as many peppermint patties as possible.  They simultaneously calmed her nerves yet delivered a jolt of energy, giving her the appearance of wide-eyed involvement.

However, her undoing was the incessant picture taking.  With every smile, she felt as if pieces of herself were falling to the floor.   Her eyes darted around the room quickly, and she eyed a decanter of single-malt scotch.  Ah, that would help her make it through the evening.  She knew it was wrong to depend on alcohol for bravery, but once December was over, she would revert to quiet nights at home with her Darjeeling tea.
