Seymour Wanted to Be A Cowboy

Seymour had wanted to be a cowboy even before he had heard of Kid Rock. But he loved the Blues, too. After torturing himself on picking a life path, he put on his 10-gallon hat & decided to be both. He changed his name to Tex, wrangled cattle on horseback, and played the blues circuit like his idol, Albert King, at night. Let's just say he was very lucky with the ladies (oh, and in fulfilling his life, too.)

By the way, I cut out the word "Blues" and the little stars under the handkerchief from strips that were used to wrap up a Hatch Show Print poster that I bought from that famous Letterpress printer a couple of years ago.  Here's a link to their website and if you're in Nashville, make sure you go visit them!

Waiting To Get In

Here's a little illustration of a guitarist waiting to get into a club.  P.S., I did this before HBO's Vinyl show tonight.  I'm a little out of order here.  Hmm.  Looks somewhat blurry.  Posted this initially on Instagram and my phone (camera) is dying...  Looks a lot better in reality.  Watercolor, ink, acrylic pastels (yes, there is such a thing)!

Fretter

Here's a bit of a surrealistic piece.  I've had it hanging out with me for about 5 months.  Am I done with it?  I don't know.  I stare at it, think I'll flush out the guitar and its frets more, and then think I don't want to touch it.  It just isn't communicating with me well...or maybe it's already told me its enough.

Chicken in the Corn - Brushy One String

Do you know the song, "Chicken in the Corn" made famous by Jamaican Reggae singer Brushy One String (Andrew Chin)?  I came across this about a year ago, probably after the first 3 million people had already seen it. ha!

Anyway, it is the catchiest tune ever, but what is truly amazing is the music this man gets out of his one-string guitar.  I mean, it is incredible.  Just try to get the tune out of your head once it's happy lyrics are implanted there--c'est imposible!  I thought I'd make a painting inspired by the song while listening to the song.  Worked for me. (-;

(This piece is heavy with oil paint.  I made it last week, but was trying to let it dry a bit.)

Day 354. It's the Weekend - Set Your Heart Free!

Oh, people, we had one heck of a week en la oficina.  I'm two glasses of red wine down, and all I can say is, it's finally the weekend, set your heart free!

Here are a few songs to get your ventricles pumping.

"You Gotta Move," Rolling Stones (an all-time sloppy, bluesy favorite)

Here's the Mississippi Fred McDowell original, "You Got To Move." I love the rawness of that guitar and voice:
