It had been feeling a lot like spring at the end of February, and then today, March 1st, the month roared in like a lion. Cold and some freezing rain, but still, a promise of life from the cold ground.
A friend of mine, who frequently changes her glasses, recently acquired a funky red pair. I thought I'd pay tribute to them in this piece of art.
Mimi was in love with her new red and white eyeglasses. She thought they added just the right amount of pizzazz to her face. Yet...something was amiss. She liked to match her accessories, and nothing in her jewelry box went with her new specs. In fact, no bangle or bauble could she find to make her visage sublime. That was until, she found a pair of springtime white gloves in a bottom drawer. Why, these will do the trick! And indeed, once those soft, snug mitts of refinement were on, she pulled her entire look together and was a vision of springtime loveliness!
Our Magnolia tree is blossoming. I sat outside Saturday afternoon before that David Lindley concert that I posted about yesterday, and soaked up the world of spring. Here's a snapshot, no filters or image-enhancement at all.
The sky was really that blue, the flowers really that pink.
It's been snowing since last night. Snow on top of snow. It feels warmer, though, and the snow is gentle. I feel hope that Mother Nature is about to turn a corner. Nonetheless, I don't think She wants us to forget that all seasons are favored, and She isn't about to short shrift the current one.
I thought I had finished this last night, but ended up putting more contrast into it this a.m. I was listening to Led Zeppelin's, "Rain Song" while doing so--it's gentle, beautiful strings and gradual crescendoing underscored the cyclic nature of the piece (or at least it did in my mind.)
My husband said on his phone, he initially couldn't see the face in the roots. I darkened it a little below to enhance it. I used circles because of their symbolism:
The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite,eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement... (Hermes Trismegistus)).
In any event, I'm very happy with this one...took a long time, but I was in a meditative state so it didn't matter.
Here are a few other pictures of what I woke up to this Sunday morning. Pussy willows wearing a coat of snow. March, I'm glad you're here.
Hope you all remembered to turn your clocks back. Even one extra hour of sleep wasn't enough to recover from the last few days of whirlwind art creation and transport.
I'm going to give you a sweet, little reminder to not fret the loss of sunshine. It's as its supposed to be. Time to huddle down into the coziness of your home for awhile. Leave those sweet ducks alone so they can bring the light back to us in the spring.
Oh, the sights and sounds of spring! Warm breezes blowing, random daffodils and tulips bursting, birds chirping and sh.....! Wait! Did I actually just see and hear what I think I did?
E-bow and I were walking along, enjoying the early evening, still warm at 65 degrees. I'm looking at the sky, looking at the bird high up in the tree, hoping my pup doesn't see him and go beagle barking crazy. Suddenly, I hear a squirt, squirt, and I find myself dodging the fastest rear release ever!
Um, there are no gastrointestinal problems there, peeps! So forget prunes; worms, insects, and --what's out now? can't be berries--seem to be the way to go! No pun intended. (-;
